Bringing a new baby into the household is really one of the most amazing experiences most of us can have. Though it also comes with its share of challenges, it can change the parents’ lives in some unexpected ways.
Having a newborn in the house will undoubtedly add some unexpected changes to the way you do things. You will not sleep, for example, because newborns do not sleep.
Don’t worry, though. You will adjust to the changes as they come. It’s just that at first, these things take time to get used to. It can cause stress and problems before then.
When you become a parent, you will have an upheaval in your social life also. This is not surprising, everything will take a lot of time and effort to make it happen. Even a trip to grandma’s is a major ordeal for new baby families.
You will discover that is becomes more harder to keep up with those friends of yours that you had before you had the baby. Especially with the friends that you had before with no babies. But if you make the effort, you can do it.
There are some really cool things that happen too, though. You start to really feel like a responsible grown-up in so many ways. And then not so much in others. You will begin to feel a real change in the way you respond to the world. Like, you will feel a protective instinct kick in whenever somebody else handles your child.
What really happens is you start to react as if the world has consequences for people outside yourself. It isn’t just you it effects anymore, it’s also your child.
You should expect all or some of these things to happen to you – and expecting them will make it a little easier to cope. The best thing to do, though, is to cultivate a support network with your friends and family.
